I understand that Mastodon says “no advertising”. As someone who used to do digital advertising work, artist and author self-promotion is not the same as Pepsi buying up newsfeed space to push product images into your subconscious. If you’re on Smutlandia, I assume you want to talk about and promote your work. That is a good thing.
@monster_mistress That's reassuring.
For me, what promotion I do is basically always powered by my own excitement and enthisiasm for the work anyway. There's a huge differen from a post that's like, "Eeeeee! My book is finally here! Check it out!" and Pepsi being like "Drink our concentrated sugar water and you'll become successful in everything you do!"
@monster_mistress thank you 🙏
@monster_mistress Bless your heart. Thank you.
@monster_mistress 👍 👍 I hope that #EroticaMastodon will develop less of a culture of constantly reposting the same book ad once a week in order to please Teh Algorithm, and more engagement between writers and (gasp!) their readers with the occasional ad when, say, a new book comes out. That's my intent anyway! 😁
@monkeysmut it makes sense! Mastodon’s code does not possess a feed algorithm beyond putting the newest post in your feed first. The best way to “go viral” is to engage.
